Frequently Asked Questions

To join AFSTA, interested organizations or companies need to submit a membership application through the AFSTA Secretariat. Applicants are required to complete the membership form and provide the necessary supporting documents. Once the application is reviewed and approved, the applicant will be notified and guided on the next steps, including payment of membership fees.

While membership in a National Seed Association is encouraged, it is not always a mandatory requirement for joining AFSTA. However, applicants are expected to be legitimate stakeholders in the seed sector and comply with relevant national regulations. Being part of a national seed association can strengthen collaboration within the broader seed industry ecosystem.

AFSTA membership provides several strategic advantages:

  • Access to a continental network of seed industry stakeholders
  • Participation in AFSTA Congress, conferences, and technical forums
  • Engagement in policy advocacy and harmonization initiatives across Africa
  • Access to market intelligence and industry information
  • Opportunities for capacity building, training, and knowledge exchange
  • Increased visibility and business networking opportunities within the African seed sector

AFSTA offers different membership categories:

  • National Seed Associations – recognized seed industry associations representing companies within a country
  • Seed Companies – companies involved in seed production, processing, or marketing
  • Associate Members – research institutions, universities, and service providers
  • Affiliate Members – entities collaborating with the seed industry
